Twelve Days of Christmas Crafts, Day 8 – Appliquéd Christmas PillowsI actually made these appliqued Christmas pillows last Christmas. I love them so much I’m sharing them again in the Twelve Days of Christmas Crafts Series.
To make the pillow you’d use the same exact method I used in my previous post about how to make a pillow with an invisible zipper…which happens to be my most popular post to date. So I won’t go into detail about pillow making here.
I used contrasting red fabric on the pillow backs. I think it just makes the pillows so festive.
I printed a pattern for each of the critters. Then traced the pattern onto quilters cotton and cut it out.
For the penguin I had to create the pattern in separate pieces so I could use two different fabrics…obvs. 😉
I used the heat and bond method that I’ve used so many times to stick the animals to the pillow. This monogram pillow tutorial is the most detailed heat n bond method. Check out the post if you want to appliqué.
Once the critters were stuck to the pillow front with heat and bond, I used a free motion meandering technique on my sewing machine to stitch around the animals and underneath the animals to ground them.
The free motion stitching is really easy and is the key to giving the animals form.
Another easy Twelve Days of Christmas Crafts project. There’s only four more days in the series and I’ll try my best to NOT make another Christmas pillow. I’m a pillow- aholic.
Merry Christmas!
