The spring One Room Challenge is upon us and once again it snuck up on me. For those of you new to the One Room Challenge, it’s a bi-annual event where 20 featured designers/bloggers design a room in six weeks time. Each Wednesday the designers post their progress, with the finished product on the sixth week. Along with the featured designers, anyone with a blog can participate as a guest participant, posting each Thursday.
The most wonderful time of the year…I love seeing all the fabulous designs by the featured designers and guest participants. I participated in the 2017 Fall ORC…link here…and made the mistake of renovating my kids bathroom. It was far more complicated than I anticipated, it took 3 times longer and cost 3 times more than I thought. Therefore I haven’t participated in the ORC since then.
So this time, after vacillating and ignoring all the signs and emails, I decided to go ahead and join the fun and renovate my girls bedroom. I’ve been telling my girls I would re-do their room for quite some time now.
The room is a generous size. It’s 15 x 15 with a large closet on one wall, which will be included in the renovation process. I plan to add some organization and a little style to the closet as well.
When we first bought the house this bunk-bed alcove had a built-in armoire that took up half the alcove space and left an awkward void of wasted space. I pulled out the built-in and installed two twin bunks with a ladder to the top bunk. Then my older daughter became a teenager, so we switched the girls positions, extended the bottom bunk for a queen bed and installed stairs to the top bunk. That’s as far as it went. I never painted the room, and that’s the way it’s been for years. I’m hoping with closet organization and a beautifully designed space my girls will take pride in their room and start to keep it clean. We shall see.
My plan for this room…
- paint the bunk-beds a blueish green.
- paint a floral-ish mural on the wall behind the beds.
- change the white blinds to wooden/bamboo shades.
- make curtains and trim them out.
- trim the closet doors somehow to cover the louvers.
- trim or replace the door.
- paint the closet doors and entry door dark grey.
- add billy bookcases and hanging space to closet.
- add vanity space with mirror and lamp.
- slipcover chair I already own.
- cover bean bag we already have .
- make new duvet covers.
- new bedding.
- hang sconces in bunks.
- art.
- rug!
- accent pillows.
- accessories.
