woo-hoo!!!!! I finally finished my library wall. Just in time for Thanksgiving! I’m just getting around to posting about it because it’s been very dreary here and haven’t had good light for pictures. I’m over the moon with the results.
As I scraped together the funds to buy all the trim(not much $ by the way), I had plenty of time to waffle about the color. Since this corner of the room is so dark, I was originally thinking of using a bright white for the body of the shelves and a dark color for the backs. But, the more I thought about it the more I wanted to embrace the cozy and go dark with the entire wall. So I went to Home Depot and picked up some samples of my three favorites…hale navy(Ben Moore), Hague blue(Farrow & Ball), and Poppy Seed (Behr). I wanted the cabinets to be ambiguous. Are they black or are they blue?? Not, wow nice blue bookshelves?! Hale Navy is the perfect fit, dark and dramatic but not a black hole.
I have to admit, when my mother in law first put the roller to the wall it was a little nerve wracking how dark it looked. But, I had to reassure myself to just relax and know this is always the case at the beginning of a project and to just press on. As I suspected it looks amazing.
I was considering using a high gloss on the shelves but my craftsmanship on the free crown moulding is not great so I decided to try and hide the imperfections under eggshell sheen.
It changes the look of the whole room, and the whole house since we have a very open floor plan and this is on one end of the great room. This is the view looking inside from the back patio. before and after I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving! There’s much to be thankful for!
