faux roman shade made from burlap and dropcloth trimmed in ribbon

Today’s quick creation.

Roman shade made from burlap and drop cloth lining

After a long time coming I finally made new roman shades for my kitchen window.  The blue stripe of the old shades turned out to be too dark for my already dark kitchen.  Those will almost certainly end up in #1-3 son’s room.

The inspiration for these new shades came from the leftover ribbon I purchased for my nieces nautical-ish wedding.  I came across it last night and knew  I wanted to use it to trim my new shades.  So, I started rifling through my stacks of fabric.  Burlap turned out to be the only option.  I don’t usually use burlap because of its stubborn nature(won’t press flat, loose weave=skewed drape, rough feel) but I’ve been seeing it everywhere and I do like the texture in contrast to the refined look of the navy and white ribbon.  I didn’t have enough lining, so I used some leftover drop-cloth for the lining. They’re not perfect but they look better than what I had.
