I picked up a few pieces at auction for a song, so I thought I would try some deconstructed upholstery . I see this deconstructed style a lot these days and it’s certainly easier to accomplish than traditional impeccable upholstery.
This is one of the chairs I bought which I already stripped down to the bare bones. The chair is old. Not sure how old, but it had horse hair in it. It’s a little ornate for my taste, but with simple upholstery of 100% hemp on the inside back and cushion, and a herringbone burlap on the outside I think it will balance nicely.
This is the shameful fabric that was on the chair before I stripped it.
What do you think of this style? Do you think it just looks unfinished? Interesting or not?
Upholsterer’s around the world are probably just shaking their heads.
