I generally don’t decorate for halloween, but when I saw this embroidered black cat pillow I knew I had to make one.
I think I fell in love because we had a black cat named Lokey. He was an unusual cat. He would only poop on hard surfaces like the sidewalk, driveway, the tile floor, and my front porch. The front porch was his favorite place. He pretty much lived right outside our front doors. He spent most of the day with his nose pressed against the glass. He was a sweet cat, but I was constantly hosing off my front stoop and sidewalk and it always smelled like cat. Not a welcome greeting. Oh well… we loved him anyway.
The picture above is Lokey on Thanksgiving day trying to figure out why theres’s turkey foot prints leading to the front door (A tradition started by my mom years ago).
So on with the black cat pillow making. I printed out a pattern from this website .1. You hold the pattern up to the window and trace the cat shape on the back with chalk. Essentially making chalk transfer paper.
2. Then you flip the paper over onto the black fabric and transfer the design by tracing the cat with a pencil.
I bought embroidery floss for my pillow, but I think yarn would work or even quilting thread doubled up.
3. You just use a simple running stitch and follow the lines.
The nose and eyes of the cat you just stitch back and forth from top to bottom. I added a little green thread to the center of the cat eye.
And there’s your angry little black cat.So grumpy and ready for Halloween.
This is a super simple project that takes a minimal amount of time and few supplies…
- 1/4 yard of fabric
- Embroidery thread- 3 or 4 colors
- embroidery needle or needle with a large eye.
- chalk
Give it a try …You’ll love it.
