I know this title is a little click-baity but I have seriously intended to monogram towels to reduce my kids laundry for so long! I’m super excited to test this.
My kids use towels like toilet paper. Everytime they take a shower they use a fresh towel and that towel ends up in a heap somewhere on the floor, bed or other inappropriate place. Then when I need a fresh towel the linen closet is empty.
I decided a couple years ago to personalize a set of towels for each of my children so they would be responsible for their own towel and would be held accountable if their towels were found on the floor. No more blame game when it comes to who left the wet towel on the couch.
Initially I intended to use a loop/tag that would serve double duty to hang the towels and designate who owned the towel. But when I monogrammed these pillows for my bed last year I decided to use the same method on towels. I love monogramming.
I used the same method I used for the pillows, except I used transfer pencils that I picked up at Joann Fabric and Crafts.
Like the method I used for the monogram pillows I traced the back side of the letter, but this time the pencil is transferred to the fabric by heat. Pretty simple.
The pencil transferred pink, which is fine for my project because I used pink thread to satin stitch the letters to the towels, but I imagine it might be an issue for other non-pink projects. I think it should wash out though.
The letters are cut out and adhered to the towel with Heat N Bond Lite. The Heat N Bond glues the letter to the towel so it can be permanently sewn to the towel without shifting. It would be very difficult to sew around the letters if they were just pinned to the towel.
I monogrammed two towels per child, so we’ll see if this actually helps with my endless laundry piles. The kids all seem very receptive to the idea, even a little excited. Now I need to hang a hook in each bedroom so the towels have a home between showers.
I’ll keep you posted on how/if this method works for me to reduce laundry.
Do y’all have mounds of towels to wash every week? Do you think this method would help you?
And…a video to further explain the process…

September 10, 2018 at 9:43 pmI’m totally in love with this idea! I did the same type of idea with the towels in my kids bathroom by putting their picture up above their towel rack. Keeps them all accountable as well.
