While the rest of the country flocks to the great outdoors in the summer, here in Florida summer is a great time to be inside sewing for your home. Here are 5 easy summer sewing projects with step by step tutorials and videos.1. These Shibori dyed zippered pillows are so fun and sew easy. 😉 The best part about this zippered pillow project is that it can be so inexpensive to totally transform the look of your living room or your patio with a couple new pillows that you can make in an afternoon.

2. Next on the summer sewing list is the relaxed roman shade. I know this project sounds daunting. BUT, it’s actually a lot easier than you’d think! Roman shades don’t take a lot of fabric and the relaxed roman doesn’t require any dowels or roman shade ribs, so it’s very approachable. All the supplies you need can be purchased at Joann Fabrics or Amazon.
I have a video tutorial on the relaxed roman <HERE> . The video is really detailed and step by step which makes the process so easy.

I use a method called the roll-up method, sometimes called the burrito method. It’s simple and makes a beautiful pillowcase with no seams to serge or overlock. All the seams are enclosed.
This pillowcase is a perfect place to start if you’re a beginner, or a great project for a child.
You can combine three favorite fabrics to coordinate with your bedroom or choose one single color. You can even use an unused flat sheet to make your pillowcases. This project is so satisfying because you can make multiple pillowcases in one afternoon and have a beautifully coordinated bed in no time flat.

4. This market tote bag or reusable grocery bag is an easy sew and so functional. And boy oh boy is this thing strong and sturdy. I regularly use mine for my Aldi trips and they hold sooooo much weight without a fuss. I made the handles wide so they’re super comfortable when holding a lot of weight.
The best thing about this sewing project is that after you’re first bag, you’ll be an expert. Then you can make any size or shape. I’ve made this bag huge with short handles for each of children to use as a laundry bag, and I’ve made this bag shallow and longer for a beach bag. There are so many uses for this handy tote, and so many ways to make it custom and special.
5. The last summer sewing project is possibly the easiest. This lumbar pillow for my sofa is actually made from an IKEA throw rug. This pillow has a zipper and only two seams on each end. There’s no cutting involved at all. The best part is the Ikea throw rug is only $3.99. This summer sewing project is not only easy and fast but super affordable.
